Dalgona Coffee or "whipped coffee" is the latest social media hype and comes together quickly with four ingredients!
So what exactly is dalgona coffee, also referred to as "whipped coffee'? That's exactly what I was wondering when I saw this coffee drink all over social media. As a coffee drinker myself I was curious to jump on the bandwagon and go buy some instant coffee and try it!
What is Dalgona Coffee?
It's equal parts instant coffee, hot water and sugar whipped together to create a whipped foamy texture that's then poured over a glass of milk - iced or hot. Take a few sips and then mix in the foam mixture with the milk to reduce some of the sweet taste.
What you need:
- Hand electric mixer, whisk or fork (electric mixer is the best option to get the mixture whipped quickly). I like using this immersion blender
- Medium mixing bowl - if you use a small mixing bowl, beware as this will splatter everywhere - It happened to me a couple times.
- Instant coffee (regular or decaf)
- White sugar
- Hot water
- Choice of Milk (I use Almond Milk or Hemp Milk)
- Ice - for and Iced Dalgona Coffee
Iced Dalgona Coffee
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoon instant coffee
- 2 tablespoon granulated white sugar (coconut sugar works too)
- 2 tablespoon hot water
- Almond Milk or milk of choice (4-6 oz of milk per glass)
- Handful of ice cubes
Instructions
- In a medium size bowl add instant coffee, sugar and hot water
- Beat the mixture with an electric hand mixer or whisk until mixture thickens to golden brown color
- With a spoon pour whipped mixture over glass of milk and ice
Notes
GET CREATIVE WITH IT:
- Add a dash cinnamon to the mixture (my favorite)
- Want a hint of matcha flavor? add ½ teaspoon of matcha
- Have caramel, vanilla, hazelnut syrup…? stir in a pump of syrup to the mixture once whipped
- Pour it over your favorite espresso drink to get that extra coffee kick that's fun to drink
What I like about this trendy coffee:
- It's super simple to make
- Makes a perfect pick me up afternoon drink
- The best part of this coffee drink is how quickly it comes together with items you already have at home.
- Although this will not replace my everyday coffee, it's a fun one to make once in while when you're craving something sweet.
- Lets not forget it makes a great photo to post on social media!

My daughter just told me about this! There will probably be a huge jump on instant coffee now! I have espresso powder that I use for baking, which is only once a year or so... I think that will work!

Yes! i'm not an instant coffee drinker myself and had to go buy some to try this drink! I've read that espresso powder works.

This was fun to make and tasted great. Definitely share this because it can be quite sweet and maybe a little strong. I will be adding a little matcha to it next time, that sounds good!

Yes such a fun drink to make! try adding matcha when you get a chance 🙂
