Dalgona Coffee or "whipped coffee" is a fun coffee to make with only 4 simple ingredients. Dalgona coffee had a viral moment during 2020 when everyone was making it at home on repeat. Its foamy light sweet texture is delicious and gives you a nice caffeine boost.

What I like about this Iced Dalgona Coffee recipe

    • It's super simple to make
    • Makes a perfect pick me up afternoon drink
    • The best part of this coffee drink is how quickly it comes together with items you already have at home.
    • Although this will not replace my everyday coffee, it's a fun one to make once in while when you're craving something sweet and fun

What is Dalgona Coffee "whipped coffee"?

It's equal parts instant coffee, hot water and sugar whipped together to create a whipped foamy texture that's then poured over a glass of milk - iced or hot. Take a few sips and then mix in the foam mixture with the milk to reduce some of the sweet taste.

    Ingredients and tools you'll need:

    • Instant coffee (regular or decaf) 4 small packets were used in this recipe
    • White sugar, cane sugar, coconut sugar and brown sugar work great
    • Hot water
    • Choice of Milk - I like using oat milk and hemp milk, but any milk works
    • Ice - for and Iced Dalgona Coffee
    • Hand electric mixer, whisk or fork (electric mixer is the best option to get the mixture whipped quickly). I like using this immersion blender
    • Medium mixing bowl - if you use a small mixing bowl, beware as this will splatter everywhere - It happened to me a couple times

    Make whipped coffee at home

Step 1: Start by adding the sugar, instant coffee and hot water into a medium size bowl. Using an electric hand mixer, whisk or fork whisk the ingredients until you have reached a golden brown, whipped consistency. About 2-3 minutes.

Step 2: In a mug or tall glass add milk, ice cubes and pour over the whipped coffee and combine with a spoon and enjoy!

    Variations

    • Add a dash cinnamon to the mixture (my favorite)
    • Want a hint of matcha flavor? add ½ teaspoon of matcha
    • Have caramel, vanilla, hazelnut syrup? stir in a pump or 1 tablespoon of syrup to the mixture once whipped
    • Pour it over your favorite espresso drink to get that extra coffee kick that's fun to drink

My daughter just told me about this! There will probably be a huge jump on instant coffee now! I have espresso powder that I use for baking, which is only once a year or so... I think that will work!

Yes! i'm not an instant coffee drinker myself and had to go buy some to try this drink! I've read that espresso powder works.

This was fun to make and tasted great. Definitely share this because it can be quite sweet and maybe a little strong. I will be adding a little matcha to it next time, that sounds good!
