sardines ceviche served with tortilla chips and lime wedges

Sardines Ceviche

Sardines ceviche is quick, fresh, and full of flavor. It’s a bright, citrusy dish that feels light but satisfying. It’s perfect for lunch, an easy appetizer, or anytime you want something refreshing without a lot of effort.

Ingredients

  • 4.4oz Canned sardines — scale free in extra virgin olive oil (I like Wild Planet)
  • cup Cucumber - ⅓ cup finely chopped
  • ¼ cup Red onion - finely diced
  • ¼-1/3 cup Tomatoes - chopped
  • ½ Jalapeño (minced) seeded and ribs removed
  • teaspoon Ground cayenne pepper
  • 1 Juice of a lime
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt (plus more to taste)
  • Pepper and garlic powder (to taste)

Garnish

  • Cilantro (optional)

Serving suggestions

  • Sea-salt tortilla chips (Siete brand - my personal favorite)
  • Tostadas
  • Saltine crackers
  • Lettuce wraps

Instructions

  • Chop all the ingredients and add them to a medium bowl
  • Place the sardines on top (without the olive oil juice or water), then use a fork to gently break them apart
  • Season with salt ¼ teaspoon of kosher salt and a couple shakes of garlic powder and pepper to taste and combine. Add cilantro on top to garnish (if using)
  • Serve with sea salt tortilla chips, tostadas or bed of lettuce

Notes

This recipe serves one which makes the perfect quick meal, but the recipe can be double, triple if using as an appetizer.
*Cayenne pepper can be left out if you prefer more milder taste with less heat.
